1. Turkish and Russian troops equipped with armored vehicles and drones began joint ground patrols in northeastern Syria on Friday, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Twitter.

The patrols take place within the framework of an agreement signed by Turkish President R. T. Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, which requires the Syrian Kurdish fighters to retreat 30 kilometers from the Turkish border.

The patrols are aimed at ensuring the withdrawal of militants and the security of the area. Russia has previously stated that the withdrawal of troops has been completed.

The fight against "terrorists";

The deal halted a Turkish offensive that began last month against Kurdish fighters whom Turkey considers terrorists linked to the Kurdish uprising in Turkey. Turkey entered the area after the head of the United States, D. Trump announced the withdrawal of American troops from the region earlier in October. The US decision was widely criticized, and many saw it as abandoning the Kurdish fighters, who have been the main US allies in the fight against the extremist group Islamic State.&In Syria, at the mercy of the Turkish invasion.

Erdogan said on Wednesday that troops would patrol up to 7 kilometers deep inside Syrian territory. The ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the patrol deal excluded the city of Qamishli.

2. The Supreme Court of Russia has dissolved a group of human rights activists Lev Ponomarev a few months after the authorities called her a "foreign agent," Interfax reported on Friday.

The Russian Ministry of Justice blacklisted the organization For Human Rights as a foreign agent along with two other NGOs after Ponomarev was investigated for political activities while receiving funding from abroad.

78-year-old Ponomarev spent more than two weeks in prison last year for allegedly calling for an unauthorized protest against the detention of teenagers accused of extremism.

The ruling is based on complaints from the Ministry of Justice that the NGO has outdated statutes and imposed fines on foreign agents totaling 1.9 million rubles (US$ 29,600).

Ponomarev vowed to appeal the Supreme Court's decision, telling the newspaper Novaya Gazeta that "protecting human rights is a way of life."

The NGO's lawyer, Sergei Andropov, said that the defense would then appeal the decision of the Supreme Court of Russia to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

In December 2014, the Human Rights organization was previously labeled as a foreign agent, which was designated in 2015.
